ABOLITION
Abolitionists were people who wanted slavery to end as soon as possible.The North was free and the South still had slavery. Quakers were an example of Abolitionists. Quakers in the Uwharries had formed the North Carolina Manumission Society. Manumission is the act of releasing someone form slavery. Some Quakers even helped NC Colonization Society to help pay for ship passage back to Africa for free blacks who wished to move there.'
