Ford made cars affordable in the 1910's. North Carolina had know about cars ever since 1905. By the year 1912 almost all townspeople started using them on a regular basis. After the 1st World War they became very important in the countryside. Most people thought it was impossible. Osmond Barringer was one of the first auto dealers in the state. He opened the first Charlotte Motor Speedway in Pineville. After the 1st World War Henry Ford made it possible for people to do the same as Osmond Barringer. The war had put more money in people's pockets. Ford's company grew so fast he opened a factory in Charlotte. It could make 300 black Model T's in one day. All people in NC drove one. After World War 1 almost 1/10 of every NC family had a car.
